Varsity Girls Soccer: Riverbend Bears vs. Chancellor Chargers
By: Greg Wolfe
Wednesday night was one the Chancellor Chargers (1-2) will be wanting to forget. The Riverbend Bears put up goals early and often to run away with the game, forcing it to end early with a final score of 10-2.
About 15 minutes into the game, the Bears started to get their kicks in against a struggling Chargers defense. In less than a minute, the Bears put up two goals and already had the Chargers in a hole. And as the old saying goes, when it rains it pours.
After the Bears added two more onto their lead, Caedyn Berg broke the scoring drought for the Chargers that had dated all the way back to the previous week. Her goal gave the Chargers a fighting chance, but unfortunately the high-octane offense of the Bears proved to be too much.
The Chargers trailed 7-1 headed into the second half, and the game never really seemed to shift tides. The Bears grew their lead, and fought of Berg's second goal of the night, to force a shortened game. The Chargers, however, did move the ball better in the second half.
The Chargers next contest will be this Friday against the Eastern View Cyclones, marking their first conference game of the year. The Chargers will look to find a stride and build off of it, to start off well in games that are more meaningful towards the end-goal of the season.
