Chargers Can't Hold On To Early Lead, Cyclones Storm Back

Varsity Field Hockey : Eastern View Cyclones vs. Chancellor Chargers

A powerful Eastern View field hockey team visited the Chancellor Chargers on a bleak Monday afternoon. It was a very quiet start to the game until the Chargers surprised everyone and squeezed a shot in as the first half ended. For the rest of the game, though, it was Eastern View all the way as they cruised to four goals in the second half and quieted any thoughts of an upset finishing with a win 4 - 1.

For the second consecutive week, the Chargers' offense struggled to maintain possession, which consequentially put major stress on their defense. The Chargers goalie Naiomi Nichols had another great game at the goal today, collecting five saves and maintaining a good wall that made it tough for the Cyclones' offense to score. A breath of relaxation could be held at the half though, as Chancellor's No. 2 Laney Garrette, with the help of almost every other Charger on the field, pushed the ball past the Cyclones' goalie giving the Chargers a 1 - 0 lead.

On Eastern View's side, positive suggestions from their head coach on the sideline during halftime helped them get off to a hot start. Three and a half minutes into the second half, it was already a tie game. It would take another twenty minutes, but the Cyclones broke out and scored the final three goals of the game to storm to victory. They took advantage of a gassed Charger's defense, and it will be something for the Chargers to work on for later this week.

The Chargers next challenge will be on the road against King George on Thursday for their final game of September. The Cyclones next game will be against the same Chancellor Chargers next week back at home for a make-up game.
