Varsity Volleyball : Courtland Cougars vs. Chancellor Chargers

Chargers Can't Contain Cougar's Energy

After watching the varsity field hockey team, junior varsity field hockey team, and the junior varsity team all fall to Courtland, the Varsity Volleyball team looked to try and end the day on a high note for Chancellor. The intensity of the game floated through the air for every match, but despite multiple strong showings like one from team captain Brittany Margelos, the Chargers just couldn't stop the Cougar's explosive front. Both sides gave it their all, and the rivalry game played true to its word. A beautiful rendition of the national anthem by Chargers Bella Conrad and Payton helped charge into the night the right way.

Match 1 started with a Chargers serve that seemed to go back and forth for eternity until Courtland struck first and rode on to an early 4-1 lead. The Chargers pushed back and took the lead briefly at 5-4, but after that Courtland really started to show their dominance on the court. Eventually winning the first set 25-15, Chancellor look surprised as an early lead they held seemed to have happened in a different world. With inconsistency haunting their first match, they plowed into match 2.
Match 2 started very slowly for the Chargers who started to get winded until a carefully planned timeout. No.11 Sydney Collins had an impressive spike coming out of the timeout which sparked a run of momentum for the Chargers who went from down 7-1, to only being down 9-8. Also No.7 Bella Conrad helped keep her teams spirits up with multiple diving plays to keep long rallies going. This match was played much more tightly until the end, but the Cougars held their ground and won match two at a final score of 25-20.

Match 3 was the decider for Chancellor as a victory looked far, far away. Their own ceiling seemed to be against them as well, as the ball bounced off the ceiling straight down and burned the Chargers twice. For the Chargers this night, the saying "When it rains, it pours," greatly applied. A winded Charger team could not keep up with the continuous assault from the Cougars as the Chargers fell quickly and lost Match 3 by a final score of 25-9. This ended the game as the Chargers were swept. Despite the tough round, No.11 Sydney Collins continued to have a good night with multiple assists and spikes.

The Chargers will regroup and try to bounce back on Thursday (September 22) as they head to James Monroe High School.
