Chargers Ride Impressive Offense To First Win Against Cyclones

Varsity Women's Basketball : Eastern View Cyclones vs. Chancellor Chargers

Monday's match-up between the Chancellor Chargers (1-2) and Eastern View Cyclones (0-3) was an impressive showcase of improvement for the Chargers. With 41 first half points, the Chargers made their shooting problems a distant memory as they rode to a 59 - 45 victory.

The first quarter was all Chargers, as they only turned the ball over one time and shot for 80% on Field Goals, while also nailing two three-point shots. The defense kept the Cyclones in check, forcing multiple turnovers and keeping the ball in the Chargers' hands. Junior Sydney Collins continued to have an impressive start to the year with her 4 rebounds showing her dominating presence under the net. The Chargers were able to double the Cyclones score, coming out with a 24 - 12 lead.

The Chargers momentum didn't slow down in the second quarter, where they continued to nail field goals efficiently. Nobody was probably better than Jasmine Talley, who led the team with her 11 first half points. The defense continued to impress, only allowing 12 points again as the Cyclones struggled to keep possession despite collecting multiple three-point shots. There was no question as to who the leader was headed into the half, as the Chargers boasted an incredible 41 - 24 lead.

The third quarter was a bit shaky for the Chargers, but nonetheless still a very great quarter. The defense minimized damage caused by an uncharacteristic 6 turnovers, while the offense continued to keep pressure on the Cyclones. The Chargers watched a 19 point lead shrink to just a 7 point lead, but their confidence was still high. Junior Taylor Collins had an impressive quarter as she led the way with rebounds, securing the ball 4 times. The Chargers would head into the final quarter with 49 - 42 lead in a closer than comfortable game that had started off dominant.

The Chargers righted the ship in the final quarter of the game, as their shooting percentage went back up and they kept the ball in their possession for a majority of the quarter. They also broke their season record for points, scoring 59 to break the previous 49 point record as the Chargers just continue to score more and more each game. Sophomore Bianca Atkinson led the way at the free throw line, helping the Chargers get six out of seven shots there. The defense also only allowed three total points, which helped the Chargers charge to a 59 - 45 win.

The Lady Chargers will head on the road for the first time this year on Thursday, as they go to face the Dinwiddie Generals (0-2). They will look to get back to .500 on the year, and continue to improve their game to a higher level.
