Foul Frenzy Ends In Chargers Favor

Varsity Women's Basketball : Brooke Point Black Hawks vs. Chancellor Chargers

Thursday night's match-up between the Brooke Point Black Hawks (0 - 4) and Chancellor Chargers (4 - 3) was one that free-throw enthusiasts would've loved to watch. The game included a combined 58 free throws, which accounted for 38% of the game's scoring. The game went back and forth, until it eventually would fall in the Chargers favor with a 43 - 35 victory.

The game started off very slowly, with both teams exchanging the ball through turnovers until Sophomore Bianca Atkinson ended the dry spell with a 3-Point shot. The Black Hawks and Chargers would start trading off more successful shots, but not without penalty problems on both sides. The Chargers struggled at the line, while the Black Hawks fed off of it getting the majority of their scoring from the line. After one quarter of play it was Brooke Point 8 Chancellor 11.

The second quarter of the game seemed to mimic the first, with plenty of fouls and turnovers. On a positive note however, the Chargers Junior Sydney Collins kept consistency under the net collecting a handful of rebounds and field goals after offensive rebounds. This consistency would help propel the Chargers and keep them in the game even though they would trail 20 - 17 going into the half.

The Chargers came out of halftime shooting, and shooting well. The Chargers cleaned up the turnovers, only committing three in the 3rd quarter, which prevented quick and easy scoring for the Wildcats. The Wildcats would continue to struggle shooting, as the quick Chargers defense kept the Black Hawks on their toes. The Black Hawks would only complete one successful shot the entire quarter that wasn't a free throw, as the Chargers caught up and took the lead 29 - 27.

In the final quarter the Black Hawks lost control on the game, committing 7 fouls that sent the Chargers to the foul line for points. The Chargers took advantage of this, especially Atkinson who would go on to complete 8 of 14 free throws on the night to help push the Chargers to a win. Her great shooting put the nail in the Black Hawks coffin late, as she seemed to never miss a single shot and prevent any sort of comeback. The Chargers would collect their fourth win of the season, and continue to try and build momentum going further into the season.

The lady Chargers will go on winter break for about a week before they will go and play in a Christmas tournament up in Maryland. In that tournament they will look to continue their successful season.
