Varsity Football : Chancellor Chargers vs. Spotsylvania Knights
The Chancellor Chargers (8 - 2) went on the road to face the Spotsylvania Knights (1 - 9) Friday night for their season finale, and the Charger machine was on full force as they rolled to a 68 - 0 win. The Chargers went old school with a primary rushing attack that tore apart the Knights all night as the Chargers as a team ran for 333 yards.
As the Knights were celebrating their Senior night, the Chargers prepared for their last test before a home playoff game next week against either Monacan or Powhatan. They got off to a quick start as the defense forced a three-and-out, and then Sophomore Damonte Pratt returned a punt for 45 yards to give the Chargers a quick advantage.
In the next drive Senior Noah Manuel, who just recently received a Division One offer this past week, picked up a sack and forced another Knights' punt. The Chargers picked up good field position for a quick field goal to extend the lead to 10 - 0. Then, only three minutes later, it was Junior Lovell Armstead running into the end-zone from 18 yards out for his first of many touchdowns on the night.
In the second quarter, backup quarterback Freshman Trevor Gleason took over for Senior Jason Brown and helped set the team up for another field goal making the lead 20 - 0. After the Knights picked up their only first down of the first half ten seconds into the second quarter, the Chargers put the ball back in Brown's hands who handed it to Armstead, who then proceeded to run 56 yards to the end-zone for his second touchdown of the night.
Later in the half as Gleason took over quarterback duties again, the Chargers charged down the field allowing Gleason to run 17 yards for a running touchdown of his own. With two minutes left in the half, the Chargers called a timeout to stop the clock and see if they could put up some more points. When they did get the ball it only took one play for Armstead to break away for 56 yards and his third touchdown of the night to make it 40 - 0 going into the half.
The Chargers started off with the ball in the second half and they continued to find their way into the end-zone. Brown handled things with a 21 yard pass to Manuel for another seven points. Then after the defense shut down the Knights again and forced a fumble, it was Pratt rushing in for his second touchdown of the night to make it 54 - 0.
Early in the fourth quarter the Chargers didn't let up as Senior Dorian Robinson ran 15 yards for a touchdown of his own. Senior Ruben Niamien also found his way into for a touchdown from 31 yards out with eight minutes left in the game to cap off the Chargers scoring for the night with a lead of 68 - 0.
The Chargers offense was rolling all night, with the only time they came off the field without scoring coming in with less than two minutes left in the game. Brown and Gleason traded off duties for the majority of the night, with much credit being due to Gleason who was in his second of three games for the week as the JV team will play in a championship game Saturday morning.
Next week will be huge for the Chancellor Chargers as they head home as the number 3 seed to face off against either Powhatan or Monacan.

ReplyDeleteThank you, I wasn't told until the following week and unfortunately wasn't able to include it in this article. If there are any other records he is close to and/or breaks, I'd be glad to include them. You can notify me through the email provided below my name. Thanks!
