Varsity Volleyball : King George Foxes vs. Chancellor Chargers
The Chancellor Chargers started off their last week of the regular season against the King George Foxes. Both teams have had a very similar season so far, both looking evenly matched Tuesday night. Both teams showed dominance the entire night, but it was the Foxes who pulled away victorious 3 - 1.

Match 1 began and it seemed as if the Foxes were off to a hot start and the Chargers were in trouble. That changed, however, as Senior team captain Brittany Margelos led her team on a 5 point drive that brought them back into a close match with the Foxes and it stayed that way. The Chargers were able to hold off a spiking attack from a dangerous No. 2 on the foxes, thanks to many blocks by middle-blockers Joselyn Jones and Sydney Collins. The Chargers weren't able to hold on, falling behind late and dropping the match to the Foxes with a close final score of 25 - 20.

Match 2 brought along the same intensity as the first, and the Chargers showed a more powerful attack while taking advantage of multiple Foxes' mistakes. The Foxes had four faults in the second match, which ultimately put them in holes they couldn't climb all the way out of. Multiple four-point-drives by the Chargers helped them stay in the lead, as they won a match of their own and tied it up 1 - 1. The final score of Match 2 was 25 - 22.
The Chargers came charging into Match 3, with Junior Haley McDaniel starting it off with two aces to build an early lead. The Chargers and Foxes played neck and neck for the entire match, and both teams came up clutch with numerous saves and blocks. Most notably for the Chargers was Margelos, who recorded six saves as she dived left and right around the court. This kept the Chargers in a close match-up, as the Foxes added to their spiking attack with No. 9 who was terrorizing the Chargers defense. In the end, with the closest match score of the game, it was the Foxes who took the game lead with a score of 25 - 23.
Awaiting the next incredible rally. |
Match 4 started like the two previous matches with the Chargers jumping out to early leads. An early drive put them up by four points, but the Foxes were quick to respond as they collected themselves on a timeout and the team captain No. 50 brought her team back to its' feet. It was a very clean match, as only one fault was recorded in what had been a fault heavy game. The match was just as close as all the others, but the Foxes were able to end the night as they finished the game with a 25 - 22 final match score.
The Chancellor Chargers will regroup and look forward to a game on Thursday night at home against the Spotsylvania Knights who they swept earlier this year in a much closer game than the final score indicated.
