Varsity Field Hockey : King George Foxes vs. Chancellor Chargers
Team Captain Sarah Stillabower helps her team keep the pressure on the Foxes' defense. |
In the first half, the Chargers maintained possession of the ball for a majority of the time during the first half putting constant pressure on the Foxes' goalie. They racked up six shots on goal, however none were successful as the Foxes' goalie made an impressive showing with her four saves. The Foxes weren't able to get a single shot off, as the Chargers did an incredible job of keeping the ball out of their own territory. Junior Kristine Giraldi and Freshman Emma Bernard saw the most time with the ball, being able to push forward and make sure the Foxes had to work twice as hard to even get a chance at getting possession. After one half, the score was locked 0 - 0.
The second half saw some of the same incredible defense by both teams, but it was the Chargers who were able to push across a point. Church was able to get the ball with only the goalie in front of her, and made a nifty shot into the back of the net to give the Chargers the lead. The Foxes didn't go down quietly, as they made multiple pushes into Charger territory and shot the ball three times at the Chargers' net. Sophomore Naiomi Nichols made sure that the Foxes wouldn't be able to tie things up, as she made some amazing saves and kicks to keep the ball out of her net. With only 3 minutes left in the match, the Foxes made one last drive that was spoiled by Sophomore Taylor Sullivan as she stole the ball and ran it into Foxes' territory to lock up a win for the Chargers with a final score of 1 - 0.
