Chargers Slaughter Knights On Senior Day

Varsity Field Hockey : Spotsylvania Knights vs. Chancellor Chargers

The Chargers honor their Seniors before the game.

As the Chancellor Chargers and Spotsylvania Knights squared off Thursday afternoon, there was no better word than dominance to describe the Chargers effort. Seniors Tess Hogan and Lilly Church led the way on Senior Day with three goals between the two of them. The Chargers cruised to an easy 6 - 0 win hoping to roll into playoffs.

(Senior Send-Off at end of article).

In the first half, the Chargers sent a harsh reminder to the Knights about the last time these two teams faced off. The Chargers smacked in four goals which was the same amount they opened up their last game against the Knights. Freshman Amy Bernard started off the day incredibly well quickly shooting two successful goals to give the Chargers an early advantage. Later in the half, it was Hogan knocking in two goals of her own to extend the Charger lead and capitalize on multiple impressive offensive drives. The Knights struggled to maintain possession as the Chargers were all over the field and forcing corner shots numerous times. The Chargers rolled into the second half with a large 4 - 0 lead.

The Chargers line up with their Seniors one last time.
The second half brought more Charger goals and a quick end to the day. The Chargers were able to knock in two more goals, which put the slaughter rule into effect. The Knights desperately tried to keep the game alive, but the Chargers defense held strong and tied a bow on the great game. Church scored an amazing goal from a considerable distance to highlight her Senior Day early in the second half, and then later on it was Bernard with her third goal of the day that put the nail in the coffin for the Knights. The Chargers came roaring off the field as the referees called the game and they had ended their season on a high note.

Next Monday, the Chancellor Chargers will open off the postseason against the Louisa Lions at home. They will look to build off these last couple of late-season wins and turn it into something special with a very young Varsity squad.
