Varsity Volleyball : James Monroe Yellow Jackets vs. Chancellor Chargers
The Chancellor Chargers started off a long week against the struggling James Monroe Yellow Jackets tonight. Mistakes by the Yellow Jackets helped propel the Chargers to a swift and easy sweep. Senior Eryn Suttle lead the way with eight kills on nine hit attempts, five of which came in the first match. The Chargers' ability to clean up their game after a rough start was also a big contributor to their 3 - 0 quality win over the Yellow Jackets.
In the first match, the Chargers were caught off guard and were a bit shaky. The Yellow Jackets fought them closely for most of the match which featured four faults for both teams who showed struggles during the serves. The Chargers were able to regroup and control the match back in their favor however, as coach Bob Walsh called a well-timed timeout early in the match when things seemed to be falling in the Yellow Jackets way. After the first match, the Chargers only committed one more fault for the rest of the game. This was when the Chargers started to show true dominance even with a close match score of 25-20.
The second match rolled along and Chancellor maintained complete control the entire match. With a big performance from junior Sydney Collins who recorded three blocks to stun James Monroe's attacks. Chancellor literally dug deep and showed a great overall defense that left James Monroe winded and stunned to the spot. They also went the entire match with only a single fault which was a complete turn around compared to the match from before. The Chargers played much cleaner, and it led to an easy 25-12 match win.
The third match came and went quickly, as the Chargers just continued to prove how good they are. The score tallied up quickly, and the defense continued to show its strength. Senior Bella Conrad contributed two saves and three digs in the final match, along with her teammate Joselyn Jones who was an absolute wall up front with three blocks. The Chargers' play just kept getting cleaner and cleaner which is a great sign with another game right around the corner tomorrow night. The Chargers charged home with a final match win of 25-16, improving to 7-6 on the season, above .500 again and looking to build on it.
Tomorrow Chancellor heads to King George to compete against a good challenge in the middle of their triple header this week.
