Chargers Steamroll Cavaliers On Wet Friday Night

Varsity Football : Caroline Cavaliers vs. Chancellor Chargers

Nothing else could be said about the Chancellor Chargers win over the Caroline Cavaliers Friday night other than pure dominance. The Chargers totaled 422 yards in offense, and the defense kept the Cavaliers quiet all night with a final score of 63 - 14.
The Chancellor Chargers' sideline was rocking all night.
In the first quarter, the Chargers put up 21 unanswered points to take an early lead with the help of the legs of Junior Lovell Armstead and the arm of Senior Jason Brown. The Chargers forced a Cavaliers three-and-out to start the game, and then drove down a short field with big rushes from Armstead to put up seven points. On the next Cavaliers possession, the quarterback No. 5 fumbled the ball and it was recovered by the Chargers. Again, the Chargers charged into the end-zone thanks to an incredible effort from Junior Michael Bush to extend the lead.

Armstead found his way again into the end-zone with less than a minute remaining in the quarter when he sprinted his way to the end-zone for another Charger touchdown. The Charger defense also put on a great display not giving up a single first down. They did this with a powerful defensive line led by Senior Yetur Matos who recorded the games only sack.
Chancellor's Cheer Squad cheers on the football team.
The second quarter began, and the Chargers were quickly putting up more points. Before even a minute had passed, the Chargers had seven more points thanks to an amazing 49 yard pass from Brown to his favorite target senior E.J. Jenkins. Jenkins towered over the two defenders as he was able to jump up and pull down the ball easily.

With six minutes remaining in the first half, the Cavaliers were given a second life and their only first down of the half as the Chargers were penalized for roughing the kicker. The Cavaliers quarterback made a bad decision though, as he let the ball fly and it was intercepted by Senior Laplante Alexandre and returned for 40 yards.
Quarterback Jason Brown continued to dominate
against the Cavaliers.

The big interception helped set up another touchdown as Brown tossed the ball to Senior Deion Atkinson answering the Chargers' "Chaos" section who could be heard cheering, "We want Deion!". The "Chaos" section went into a frenzy as their favorite player to cheer for gave the Chargers a 42 - 0 lead.

On the next drive, it was another interception for the Chargers that set them up for some points but this time it was Damonte Pratt who hauled it in to give the Chargers possession. Then, seconds later, it was freshman back-up quarterback Trevor Gleason with a nifty two yard run for his first ever rushing touchdown at the varsity level. At the half, it was the Chargers with a massive 49 - 0 lead.

The Chargers didn't let up going into the second half. Armstead continued to have an incredible night as he returned a kickoff for 79 yards, recording his third touchdown of the night. The rest of the third quarter went by pretty quietly, as the clock kept ticking due to a slaughter rule that was in effect. The Cavaliers did put some points on the board, however, as their quarterback ran 35 yards for a touchdown and six points because of a muffed extra point.

The Chargers defense resembled a brick wall tonight.
The Chargers saw some new faces in new places on the field with the huge lead in the fourth quarter, and one of those faces was Junior Brandon Smith with a 9 yard rushing touchdown to extend the Chargers lead.

The Cavaliers quarterback used his legs well in the second half, as he did get the teams' second touchdown of the night with a 47 yard touchdown run to put some more points on the board. The Cavaliers also tried and succeeded a 2-point attempt. This brought the final score to a big Chancellor win, 63 - 14.

Next week the Chancellor Chargers will play host to division rivals the King George Foxes, in a game that will have huge playoff implications and is the Chargers' last regular season home game of the year.
